Weekly Update

What a busy and productive week in P5/6. Thank you for all the lovely feedback from reports.

Numeracy: This week, we moved on to look at the standard written method for division which everybody coped really well with. Next week, we will be moving on to look at money and you will be focusing on shape with Mrs Fowler on a Wednesday.

IDL: We have been learning about static electricity and you worked in teams to create an informative poster about static electricity. The posters are excellent and have been displayed in the corridor for all to see.

Bounce Back: as part of our Bounce Back work we had a look at ability strengths today. We learnt a little bit about a man called Howard Gardner who developed the Multiple Intelligences Theory. We had a look at the 8 intelligences that he identified and completed a quiz to help us work out which one we are. The 8 intelligences are: word intelligence, logic and maths ability, space and vision ability, body ability, music ability, people intelligence, self ability and naturalist ability.  You will be doing more on this on Tuesday.

PE: I was very disappointed who did not have a PE kit with them this week. On the run up to sports day you will need your PE kit more often so please make sure you have it with you every day.

Good luck to all the Inter-school sports competitors that will be competing tomorrow.

Onto next week:

– No school on Monday

– I will not be in school on Tuesday. Instead you will have Mrs Barnie.

– Mrs Fowler will be in class on Wednesday.

– The NSPCC are visiting on Tuesday and will be running a workshop with you in the afternoon.

The Hundreds and Thousands Dance

Today, we had great fun trying to make the hundreds and thousands dance using static electricity. We learnt that the most common type of static electricity is lightening. Some of us proved to be more static than others and we needs to borrow their hair! Later in the week, we will be talking about why the hundreds and thousands were attracted to the balloon. Can anyone tell me why?

A bid to save paper…

If you are able to access the blog for home learning tasks then please put a note in your child’s home learning jotter to let me know. We are trying to save paper and printing the home learning tasks for everyone uses up a great deal of paper. It would be very helpful if you could use the blog to find out the home learning tasks if possible. Thanks for your cooperation.

Circuit Training

Yesterday, we were very lucky to have a visit from Mr Crawshaw and some of his S3 pupils from Millburn Academy. They brought lots of equipment with them to teach us all about circuits. We rotated aound 6 different stations where we learnt how to build simple and complex circuits by following a diagram. We also learnt about the symbols for the different components in a circuit and the S3 pupils explained what was happening. On Friday, we will have a look at these circuits again and have a go at drawing them. A HUGE thank you to Mr Crawshaw and his excellent S3 pupils for giving up their time to visit us!

Challenge: Mr Crawshaew asked you where in your house would you find a fuse wire that is designed to melt and snap if something goes wrong. Did anybody find out the answer?

Trash n Fashion

With our P3/4 buddies we have been learning about waste minimisation. We started by thinking about all the things that we use on a daily basis and how we could reduce this by only using what we actually needFurther to this, we thought about how we recycle in our houses and what we could do with the household waste that we throw away. We decided to use the waste to make outfits and hold a fashion show for the rest of the school. We worked in mixed groups of P5/6 and P3/4 to create our outfits. The Trash n Fashion show was on Tuesday afternoon. Have a look at the pictures below:

Clinical Skills

Yesterday, we enjoyed a visit to the Centre for Health Science at Raigmore Hospital. We took part in three workshops based around hand washing, skeleton and organs. We learnt lots of new information and skills and were very impressed by the modern building and technology.

What did you learn?

What did you enjoy the most and why?

Lets fly away…

As part of your home learning for the past 2 weeks, you were asked to make a kite that we would try out in school. We have been learning about a type of friction called air resistance. We learnt that, with parachutes, the bigger the surface area, the slower the parachute will travel. We also learnt that some materials worked better as kites than others.

In class, we learnt about how we could reduce air and water resistance by something called streamlining. This is when the shape of something is changed to make it travel through the air or the water more effectively. Can you think of any examples?

Have a look at the pictures below of us flying our kites – what fun we had!

Time to get creative….

CROWN PRIMARY SCHOOL

jars

For the Summer Fete, we need everyone to try and bring a jar filled with something fun that can be sold on the day. Last year we had some amazing jars filled with Lego people, tiny cars and even one full of coins! You can fill your jar with sweets, arty bits and bobs, pencils, hair clips, marbles…anything really!

Can all jars be brought to your child’s class teacher on or before Monday 18th May?  If your children are bringing the jars to school, please remind them to be careful (or wrap the jar in bubble wrap) as we don’t want any breaking en route to the classrooms! Thank you in advance for helping support this fundraising event 🙂
